What team handball players wear

A handball kit is built on three pieces: a jersey that frees the throwing shoulder, shorts cut short enough to keep a full stride on the counter, and socks that stay up inside a court shoe. Everything else layers around that.

Jerseys

Handball jerseys are cut loose across the shoulders and upper back, because the throwing motion takes the arm through a full overhead rotation. A jersey that pulls at the shoulder costs you range. Club jerseys are numbered front and back, and most European brands sell blank team kits ready for numbering.

Shorts, base layers and socks

Handball shorts use a shorter inseam than soccer shorts, typically 5 to 7 inches, so the hip stays open on a jump shot. Compression base layers under the jersey manage sweat and help recovery across a tournament weekend, and wings often add padded compression shorts because they land on the hip. Cushioned crew socks cut the friction inside a court shoe, which is where blisters come from.

Goalkeepers

Keepers wear long sleeves and padded trousers, and their jersey must be a different color from both outfield teams and from the opposing keeper. Knee and hip padding matters more than anything else: a keeper hits the floor dozens of times a match.

Referees

A handball match is run by two referees working as a pair. Their kit is neutral and distinct from both teams, and they carry a whistle, cards and a scorecard.

Sizing

European teamwear runs about one size smaller than standard American sizing. Between two sizes take the larger one, especially on jerseys where the fit is meant to be generous through the shoulders.
